David Attenborough created and hosted the Life Collection, a nine-part series of documentaries that covered the diversity of life on Earth. He first rose to fame as the presenter of Zoo Quest in 1954, and since then, he has been involved in numerous natural history programmes, such as Natural World, Wildlife on One, the Planet Earth series, The Blue Planet and its sequel.

Attenborough’s latest project, David Attenborough: Ocean, will be released in cinemas on his 99th birthday (May 8, 2025), and has been described by its producer Toby Nowlan as “the greatest message he’s ever told.”

David Attenborough got his start in broadcasting and nature in 1952, when he joined the BBC as a trainee producer.
He soon became interested in making natural history programmes, and in 1954, he launched Zoo Quest, a series that featured live animals filmed in the wild and in zoos. This show was very popular and established Attenborough as a charismatic and knowledgeable presenter.
He continued to produce and present various natural history programmes for the BBC, such as The Natural World, Wildlife on One, and The Life Collection.
He also travelled extensively to explore and document the diversity of life on Earth. He became one of the most influential and respected broadcasters and naturalists in the world.

They were married for 47 years and had two children, Robert and Susan. They tied the knot in 1950 when he was 24.
Robert is a bioanthropologist and Susan is a former primary school headmistress.

David Attenborough: Ocean is a new feature-length documentary film from the world’s most famous naturalist and broadcaster focused on the wonderous world of our oceans.
It will be released in cinemas on David Attenborough’s 99th birthday, May 8, 2025, and will later be released to stream on Disney+ on Sunday, June 8 (World Oceans Day).
In the film, Attenborough will take viewers on an immersive journey under the sea “to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen” with the world’s collective help and respect.
“My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery,” the almost-99-year-old said introducing his film.

“This could be the moment of change,” he stressed. “Nearly every country on Earth has just agreed, on paper, to achieve this bare minimum and protect a third of the ocean. Together, we now face the challenge of making it happen.”
